Constipation is a modern lifestyle related problem in which a person is not able to empty his stomach due to the lesser number of movement in the bowels and it leads to the disturbance in the digestive tracts and then it becomes cause of many other problems. Constipation could become the reason of many diseases as prevent evacuation of the toxins from human body and increases their mixing with the bloodstream and travels to the whole body and leads to the weakening of the immunity of the human body. If not treated on time, could lead to the failure of the many vital organs. Many diseases related to constipation include Appendicitis, Rheumatism, Arthritis, High BP, Cancer, Cataract.
Every human being has different number of motions in a day it depends on his physique and daily routine and most people have one motion in a day others have two or others may have more than 2 but at least one time we need to go to clear the bowel, It is considered as normal and is an essential part of the daily routine of living beings.

Causes of Constipation
The most important causes for chronic constipation are wrong diet and a faulty style of living. All foods in their natural state contain a good percentage of ‘roughage’ which is most essential in preserving natural balance of foods and also in helping peristalsis – the natural rhythmic action by means of which the food is passed down the alimentary canal. Much of the food we eat today is very deficient in natural bulk or roughage and this results in chronic constipation.
The common cause of constipation is include
- Wrong diet. Today our diet includes the food that lacks in the natural fibre and so it causes irregular digestion and leads to chronic constipation.
- Wrong live in style. Today the physical work has been reduced to a very less percentage of the overall daily activities and that leads to the indigestion of the food.
Other causes include
- Irregular habit of eating and drinking
- heavy intake of refined food, junk food, vitamins and minerals,
- less intake of water,
- over consumption of meat and aerated drinks, tea, cola and coffee and
- the most important is the stressful living.
Today we don’t chew the food as it should be chewed, food is overheated or cooked in a microwave oven that kills most of the nutrients available in food.
Another important factor is irregular and wrong methods of defecation, weakness of abdominal muscles due to bad habits, less physical activity and more of working stress and pain.

Other diseases also add to the constipation and these diseases include tumors, fatty liver, intestine problems, hyper-acidity, and diseases related to the rectum and colon, uterine disease, diabetes, use of certain drugs also relates to chronic constipation.
Home Treatment of Constipation
The most simple and effective factor in curing the constipation is the natural and natural diet and it should consist of whole grains cereal, bran, honey, lentils, vegetables mainly spinach, tomato, lettuce, onion, cabbage, cauliflower, sprouts, celery, pumpkin, peas, beans, carrots, fresh fruits mainly pears. grapes, papaya, figs, mangoes, grapefruit, gooseberries, olive oil, guava, orange, dry fruits including raisins, apricots, dates, milk products butter ghee and cream.
Another important factor is the quality of food that we eat. The food should be cooked properly and shall be chewed for at least 20 times. Food should be taken at regular time and food items including high sugar or spices shall be avoided. Food that causes the constipation shall also be avoided and this includes the food made up of white flour, rice, bread, pulses, cakes, pastries, biscuits, cheese etc.
Water plays an important factor in reducing constipation. Water helps in cleaning the system, cleaning the blood and also ejecting the bad elements from the body through urine and sweating. We should drink at least six glasses of water daily to help in maintaining a regular and sound digestive system and to extract the nutrients from the food that we eat. But be caution that water shall not be taken with the foods as it harms the digestive system, and shall be taken before or after the food with a gap of at least half an hour or hour to maintain a healthy digestive system.
Almost all fruits are beneficial in the healing constipation except bananas and jack fruit.

- Bael fruit is considered as the most beneficial food fruit for the treatment of constipation eating it helps in cleaning of the digestive system even if constipation is of a few months old. It is rich in taste and contains a good source of fibre that helps in removing the accumulated matter in the digestive system. It helps in hardening the stool and also helps when the bowel is constipated as it has the laxative properties. It shall be taken before the dinner in its raw form.
- Pear is also a great fruit that helps in the treatment of constipation it helps in dealing with the chronic constipation. Patients having such conditions shall add pears to their diet and shall take it in good quantities and it can be taken in breakfast, dinner and lunch.
- Guava is another fruit that helps in creating the constipation is a good source of the Pulp and the seeds when eaten it gives roughage to the diet and helps in normal evacuation of the stool.
- Grapes are another great fruit that helps in treating the constipation. Grapes are a good source of sugar, organic acid and fibre and all these nutrients make it a great laxative food. Grapes helps in cleaning the bowel and also helps in maintaining a great shape of stomach and intestine. When taken regularly it helps in cleaning the stomach and treating the old constipation too. If grapes are not available one can take the raisins soaked overnight in water and once those raisins are swollen in the morning we can eat the raisins and drink the water. - Yoga Asanas are also known as good treatment of of the constipation and strengthening the stomach and other the digestive system elements. Following are some of the effective asana:

- shalabhasana,
- yoga mudra,
- dhanurasana,
- halasana,
- paschimottanasana.
Pranayamas such as anulom-vilom, bhastrika and jala neti kriya are also helpful in the treatment of the constipation.
